Calories are a topic of discussion among followers of the Keto diet. Are Calories Really Important? Yes, they are. But it depends on the state you are in right now.
Even if you're on a low-carb diet like the ketogenic diet, it's important to watch your daily calorie intake so you don't underestimate or exceed it. If you eat too few calories, your body will not have enough energy to carry out its daily functions; if you eat too much, your body will store extra fat in anticipation of an upcoming famine (which never happens).
Be aware that 1g of protein and 1g of carbohydrates correspond to 4 calories and 1g of fat is worth 9 calories, so be careful when eating fatty things. Yes, this is your new engine in the Keto diet, but be careful not to exceed your daily needs. If you consume more calories than you burn, your body will store the excess in your body fat stores.
Besides, if your goal is fat loss, I would advise you to apply a calorie deficit, a reduction in fat and prioritize proteins to give your body the opportunity to burn your body fat reserves in priority over those you ingest. Especially since the body burns energy to digest the food it receives; and the good news is that when you consume 100 calories of protein, your body uses 25-30 calories just to digest that, so it's like you only consumed 70 calories! here is a natural deficit and without any difficulty to apply. This is called the TEF (Thermal Effect of Food, see table below). Fat, on the other hand, is assimilated at 97%, so out of 100 calories of fat eaten, you have actually consumed 97 calories.
Once your goal is reached, I will adjust your macros for your maintenance phase. Fat is not unlimited but useless to be afraid of it too 😊
Once you are keto or fat adapted, your appetite will naturally decrease, and you will not necessarily need any tracker. It's a bit tedious at first because we're not really aware of the macros of each food, but I assure you it gets easier and easier over time! and for the more lazy… you still have the carnivore diet which is also great and very easy to apply. I can accompany you to have a good start to the diet and teach you to have the right basics and to be independent thereafter. It's a long-term dietary change, so it's important to start with a solid foundation. Among my clients, many have already experienced the keto diet with the information found on the internet and the networks, there is good as well as very bad, and they have sometimes gained weight, sometimes given up, etc. … You can find more info about my coaching below.
